How to convert a PDF to Excel without uploading the file

What this guide is for

People search “PDF to Excel” because a bank statement, price list, or attendance sheet arrived as a PDF and they need rows they can sort. ToolZora’s PDF to Excel tool runs in the browser with pdf.js and SheetJS. The PDF is not sent to a ToolZora server for conversion.

That design has a hard limit: the tool reads text that already exists in the PDF. It does not run OCR. If you only see a photograph of a table, the download will be empty or almost empty. That is expected, not a broken button.

Before you convert

Open the PDF on your computer and try to highlight a cell with the mouse. If you can select words, conversion has a chance. If you cannot select anything, export a new PDF from Excel or Google Sheets, or type the table. Do not expect ToolZora to invent numbers from a scan.

Keep the file under the published size limit on the tool page. Password-protected PDFs will fail until you open them with the password in another app and save a copy you are allowed to use.

Steps on ToolZora

Open PDF to Excel. Drop the PDF or choose it. Wait until the page shows a workbook download. Open the XLSX in Excel, Numbers, or LibreOffice and check column order. Multi-column layouts and tables drawn as lines can land in the wrong cells; fix those by hand. That cleanup is still faster than retyping a long list.

If you need the opposite direction, use Excel to PDF. That tool builds a simple PDF from a spreadsheet in the same browser. It is not a print-quality layout engine.

We do not claim every PDF becomes a perfect spreadsheet. We do not claim compatibility with every bank’s statement layout. If the result is wrong, the honest fix is a better source file, not a fake “99% accurate” badge.
